On Wednesday, July 15th, I participated in the first round of the SfStandup.com Bay Area Laugh Leader Comedy Competition at
The Purple Onion in San Francisco. 12 comedians performed in all on Wednesday, with the top three advancing. Each comedian had 5 minutes to perform. Voting was done party by the audience and partly by judges. I did not advance. What does this mean? It means I don't go to the next round. To me, that is all it means. I know what my skill level is right now in the stand-up comedy world, so I'm not going to let a competition in which I didn't advance in get me down at all. I was just happy to be performing at a historic place like The Purple Onion. And I couldn't be happier for the three that advanced on the night I performed. You can keep track of the competition
here.
On Saturday, July 18th, I performed as a feature at Bunjo's Comedy Club in Dublin, CA. Hosted by John DeKoven, guest set by Bryce Jones, and featuring Marvin Deloatch Jr, Richard Kiss, and myself. Sheng Wang was the headliner. We performed in front of a nice intimate crowd of about 40 to 50 people. I was the last feature to go on before Sheng.
I thought my set went really well and I also did a couple new jokes that got good responses. I think getting good responses for new jokes is one of the best feelings ever as a comedian. Overall, the show was a blast with a lot of laughs.
L to R: Sheng Wang, Richard Kiss, John DeKoven, and me.
This week, I do not have any shows scheduled, but next week I have four of them. Hope you can come on out to a show. Check out the schedule!
