The 93rd Academy Awards take place on Sunday, April 25th, at 5pm PST/8pm EST. As with everything else this past year or so they will look and feel different as the world still tries to overcome the pandemic.
That being said, for film lovers, the award ceremony on Sunday should still be enjoyable to watch. Due to all the movie theater closures over the past year, many of the films were available to watch on various streaming platforms. The requirement that a film must be released in movie theaters in 2020 does not exist this time around. This year, as long as the film was originally intended to be released in 2020 prior to Covid-19, they qualified to be nominated.
I missed trying to catch as many of the nominated movies as possible in the movie theaters. Even with a decent set-up at home, nothing beats watching a film on the big screen. I saw one movie from all the movies nominated in a theater. That one movie was the animated feature, "Onward." Then shortly afterwards, everything shut down.
I was able to get around to watching a good number of the nominated movies this time around, including all the Best Picture Nominees.
Here are my predictions: I've put who I think will win in blue and who I actually want to win (if different) in orange.
